How I Train Your Voice

Technique:

  • I help singers of all ages and levels manage muscle tension to eliminate cracking and straining, which directly improves vocal range, coordination, and tone.
  • Lessons integrate standard work on pitch, rhythm, and breath support with targeted physical releases.
  • I use targeted somatic exercises based on what your voice needs in the moment to get you singing easier.
  • For advanced performers, the focus shifts to minimizing fatigue, building stamina for demanding schedules, and cultivating the muscular freedom needed to protect long-term vocal health.

Performance:

  • Technical skill is only the foundation. We bridge the gap between mechanics and artistry by breaking down a song’s narrative to deliver an emotionally authentic story.
  • Drawing from a background in dance, acting, and musical theatre, I offer practical insights into natural, commanding stage movement.
  • Finally, we prioritize your mental well-being by using somatic grounding tools, meditation and mindset shifting strategies to manage performance anxiety and stage fright in a compassionate, supportive environment.

A Working Performer

As an active union performer in Toronto, I bring real-world industry experience directly to my studio. My performance background spans over 15 years and includes gigging for three of Toronto’s major entertainment agencies, appearing on screen in the Paramount Star Trek franchise, and performing in Los Angeles with David Pack and Terry Ellis (En Vogue).

Recent credits include:

  • Two years of private shows for Toronto Blue Jays season ticket holders at the Rogers Centre.
  • Opening the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) at the Shangri-La.
  • Recurring headline features at the Friday Harbour Resort.
  • Over a hundred live performances at venues like Canada’s Wonderland, Casa Loma, the Eglinton Grand, the Fairmont, the Sheraton, and the Westin Harbour Castle and many more venues

I also run my own boutique live music and entertainment agency, Mango Love Entertainment mangolove.ca. This experience allows me to mentor students on both the artistic side of performing and the actual business of booking high-profile gigs.

Mindset and Somatic Background

Teaching connects my knowledge of mind-body mechanics with my stage experience. Because I have navigated my own deep journey through anxiety and trauma, I have spent over a decade studying somatic awareness, meditation, nervous system regulation, and emotional resilience.

This work allows me to understand the vulnerability of singing and provide a highly supportive, practical space for students working through their own blocks.

"Go Sing! Vocal Studio's performance workshop is great for everyone: Whether it's your first time performing or if you've been performing for awhile. It's a whole different ball game performing with a live musician. Cindy & Ryan worked with me to turn my songs into beautiful acoustic versions that were super fun to perform! Being surrounded by supportive friends makes this workshop a great & safe place to learn! I had an amazing time. Thank you!"

Cindy is an exceptional music teacher. While many can be gifted in their knowledge and experience with a subject, not everyone has the unique talent to be able to translate that expertise to novice and skilled persons alike. Cindy has such a deep understanding of the voice and a truly special ability to communicate that knowledge in a way that is both practical and intuitive and enriches your understanding of the science and physiology of singing, which has been very helpful for me. Every lesson leaves me with a better understanding of my voice, but also with a greater sense of curiosity and confidence as a singer.

The lessons are highly individualized. She meets you where you are, pays close attention to how your individual voice works, and helps you discover what is possible for you. She has a wonderful way of encouraging experimentation and play while still giving you the technical foundation to grow. I've learned so much about coordination, tone, resonance, and musicality from her, but just as importantly, I've learned to listen to my own voice and trust it. I’ve personally had blockages with self expression and really letting go using my voice and the safety and comfort and encouragement Cindy provides in our lessons has been deeply impactful for me. She creates an environment where it feels safe to try things, sound imperfect, make mistakes, and keep exploring, while challenging you to reach your potential.

I couldn't recommend Cindy more highly - she is truly something special!

Aishi Jiang - Singer

Cindy is an AMAZING teacher. It is mind-blowing.

1) Huge improvement in my singing in just a few months. I'm now able to sing songs that I wouldn't have even attempted before.

When I started, I had no head voice, a breathy chest voice, and a lot of tension. Now I actually have a head voice and a chest voice, and am no longer straining my voice to reach for high notes.

2) Cindy is a great listener and communicator. I've rarely felt so well understood by an instructor.

As a beginner, I'm not super familiar with terminology. I've asked Cindy a lot of vaguely worded questions, and every single time, she's been really quick to catch onto exactly what I'm asking. It's super reassuring to know that you're on the same page as your instructor, and that there's a clear path to get to where you want to be.

3) Unrelated to singing... She's hilarious. Vocal lessons are the highlight of my week, I'm not even exaggerating

Alex De Pompa - Singer

As a total beginner to singing and a generally shy person, I was very nervous to start taking lessons and the idea of singing in front of anyone was terrifying to me. But Cindy is such a kind, knowledgeable, and approachable teacher that I feel much more confident now. In two months I'm already light-years ahead of where I was before I started. Cindy quickly diagnosed my bad vocal habits and provided me with the exercises and techniques needed to correct them. She helps you to capitalize on your strengths while zeroing in on where you need to improve. Her lessons aren't for the faint of heart--she knows how to push you to your best (and beyond) while also giving you the encouragement and support you need to really go for it. I'd recommend her to everyone.

George Roubos - Singer

I've been working with Cindy for the last two months, and I already feel a huge change in my vocal ability. She's helped me improve my range significantly in the short span of time I've been with her, and I only see myself improving more and more the longer we work together. I'm very shy, especially when it comes to singing, so I was nervous going into a situation where I'd have to sing in a room one on one.

Cindy creates an environment that's so relaxed and fun, I immediately felt comfortable from the moment I walked through the door the first time. If you're interested in improving vocally and enjoying yourself while doing so, Go Sing! Vocal Studio is definitely the place for you.

Moe Jaime - Singer
This is by far the best vocal studio in Toronto I have tired all the top 5, yes if you google the top 5 Toronto studios i have tired them for more then 6 months each! Cindy is a great vocal couch she really takes the time to help you the best way she can and gets the best out of you! she really cares about her students and doesn't just do it for the money like most out there. if you want to improve your skills to take on the music world this is your first stop and its worth it!
Danelle Johnson - Singer
I have taken vocal lessons previously, Cindy is my fourth coach and the best by far! She has a great passion and technique for teaching and is working with me on things specific to my voice. I have heard a great improvement in my voice in the four lessons I have had and actually enjoy practicing at home now. She is also very affordable and well located!

If you're looking for a vocal coach who genuinely cares about you, your voice, and your growth as an artist, Cindy is the one!

We came to Cindy for our daughter, and words simply cannot describe how excited and inspired she was after just her first lesson.

Cindy immediately recognised the challenges our daughter had been struggling with and knew exactly how to address them. The progress she made in just one session was incredible. Our daughter could hardly believe what she was capable of and discovered potential in her own voice that she hadn't even realised was there!

What makes Cindy truly special is the combination of her exceptional vocal expertise, her ability to identify exactly what each student needs, and her genuine passion for helping them grow.

Cindy is not only an outstanding vocal coach but also a wonderful person who truly brings out the best in her students. We couldn't recommend her more highly!

Amanda Li - Singer

I've been seeing Cindy as my vocal coach for the last 2 years and I've loved every moment. From our first session I felt so supported and at ease in her presence, and she's helped me gain so much confidence in my singing, not only through her technique and approach, but through her encouragement and endless wisdom. I leave every lesson feeling so happy and lifted, and I'm so grateful I found her.

I highly, highly recommend her to anyone who wants to sing with more confidence!

Matthew Sauve - Singer
I'm in my late 30's and have never had any vocal training ever, and in only a few classes Cindy was able to identify the top of my chest voice and find my bridge. She's such an amazing teacher as she adapts to her students and uses exercises tailored to each student's needs. Having no previous vocal training myself, she was able to put things into layman's terms for me so I understood and have been making incredible progress with each lesson because of her passion to teach.
I strongly recommend Cindy Goh as your vocal coach as she makes you feel safe to step out of your comfort zone in her lesson which is fundamental for any singer to grow regardless of their skill level.
As an actor, I've noticed my instrument is stronger in my training and in the audition room and it's because I've been taking vocal lessons with Cindy Goh!
Renee C - Parent
I would highly recommend Cindy as a vocal instructor.
Cindy has been my daughter's vocal instructor for 3 1/2 years. During this time period, Cindy has demonstrated an exceptional ability to teach and impart her extensive knowledge of vocal techniques to my daughter. In addition, Cindy's background in performance is a wonderful bonus as she can also assist with enhancing performance skills. With an upbeat personality and the use of positive feedback in her lessons, Cindy's sessions are an enjoyable learning experience for both students and parents alike!
Shayna Vassell - Singer
Cindy is a great teacher! Most of all she really pushes you to bring out the true singer in you. There's a lion in all of us that wants to roar and believe me when I say she pushes you to reach your best but without overdoing it. She makes you feel comfortable if you're shy and will help bring out your confidence. I would recommend her to anyone!
Emilie Corbo - Singer
Not only have my technical skills become refined with Cindy's vocal instruction, but my confidence and ability to sing in front of an audience all began with Cindy. I couldn't sing in front of anyone before my lessons with Cindy. This past school year I had a lead part in my school's musical theatre production and I have performed as a lead vocalist in a Youth Band 3 summers in a row. If you have a passion for singing - Cindy will unleash it! She is an awesome vocal coach.
Charles Bois - Singer
My experience with Cindy was once of the most gratifying I have ever had. She is supportive and always there to help. That is why she maintains a great relationship with her students. I remember not being able to sing a note without being scared, and being out of pitch. One year with Cindy, using speech level singing worked miracles for me. She was able to make me feel comfortable and make me work toward my goals. With hard work, a good vocal technic and Cindy as a vocal teacher; I am now performing in some musicals in the city and pursuing my dreams. Thanks Cindy.
Julian Troiano - Singer
My voice is really loud by default, and I perform quite frequently, which harbours a lot of vocal tension and weight. For years I have floated between balanced and hoarse, with very little consistency. After my first lesson with Cindy, my voice felt great during and after multiple performances. Fast forward a month and half and she has me singing easier than I’ve ever comprehended! I am now able to sing in quiet, medium, and loud voices, with little to no tension, and consistently from day to day. Cindy’s ability to know what exercise is necessary in the moment, and modify it for me at every turn, is unparalleled!
Brandon Brophy - Owner of Singer's Edge/ Vocology In Practice Instructor
Cindy Goh is a phenomenal voice instructor! Our students and I really enjoyed her time at Singers Edge. Her passion for music and fiery enthusiasm for performance is inspiring. She understands how to make adjustments in voices to get them working better quickly. She's very talented but it's her work ethic that impressed me most. I highly recommend her.
